The year-end holidays are a time to reflect on life. Those in the home exchange community tend to be affluent, confident, and comfortable. We have much to be grateful for. My family’s house swap experiences continue to stimulate, educate, and delight us. The home exchange world evolves in a positive way—there are new swap websites entering the market with innovative approaches and ideas. Existing home exchange agencies are constantly improving the ease of use and functionality of their offerings. The total number of folks trading homes increases every year.
You can share the gift of home exchange with others. House swappers are a unique breed, it isn’t for everyone, but you have friends or family that would seriously consider it. You can encourage them by explaining how home exchange works. Brian Luckhurst of HomeExchange50plus suggests giving them a year’s membership in a house swap agency “For the price of a meal out, you could give them a holiday to remember. The book or cardigan can wait till next Christmas!”
You can help strangers with home exchange too. Every year thousands of new families sign up to trade their place. You encounter them looking at listings and when they send you an inquiry. They deserve extra consideration and respect. You can help them by pointing out any obvious errors in their approach (for example, lack of photos in their listing.) When you trade your home with them you can share your knowledge to make it work as smoothly as possible. You can forgive their mistakes—we had one family forget to tell us that they had kitty litter boxes in all of their bathrooms.
The team at Home Exchange University wishes you Happy Holidays and a fun and exciting 2013!
